About La Brena II Dam

La Breña II is a gravity dam on the Guadiato river in the province of Córdoba, Andalusia. Completed in 2009, it is one of Spain's newest major dams, replacing and greatly expanding the original La Breña dam (1932). With a capacity of 823 million cubic metres, it serves water supply for Córdoba city and surrounding municipalities, irrigation for the Guadalquivir valley, and flood control on the Guadiato. The modern design incorporates environmental flow requirements and fish passage facilities reflecting contemporary dam engineering standards.
